On opinionated opinion editors

Since April 2005, I’ve had op-eds published in over 10 newspapers in Australia and New Zealand. I’ve appeared in major newspapers of both Fairfax and News Limited empires. It’s been a roller-coaster ride, and I’ve met some interesting characters along the way.

Most opinion editors are polite and professional. They are also extremely busy and frequently unable to respond to e-mails and submissions.

But some opinion editors deliberately insist on only allowing a certain line to be run on certain issues. Others are prone to using foul and disgusting language over the phone to contributors.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll be exploring and exposing some of my experiences with these editors. I won’t be naming any names or exposing specific newspapers. I can tell you they are all based in Australia, though not in Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Hobart, Geelong, Perth or Adelaide.

Watch this space.

"I’ll be exploring and exposing some of my experiences with these editors. I won’t be naming any names or exposing specific newspapers. At least not yet."

They'll be shaking in their boots. Your threat to 'expose' people is pathetic. If someone doesn't publish your rants you want to expose them as racist. Get stuffed you pathetic subhuman coon.

Newspapers don't exist so that you can justify your continued sad existence. Blow yourself up or go rape one of your own race and be like the smelly terrorists and rapists. The majority of Australians are not interested in you stinking muslims. I am interested in your opinion only because I want you tortured and starved by the government before they throw you out of the country.

Anon @ 247, you sound surprisingly like a former staffer who was known for his flaxibility in the use of weed ...

Irf, seriously, I like coming here to read what you have to say. But you should stop posting the anon comments of people who refuse to follow the advice of their psychiatrists.

People like anon @ 1137 seriously need to be committed to hospital. If conventional psychiatry won't help them, perhaps they should try their local vet.

I agree with yl. Alot of people carefully screen the comments on their blogs. Perhaps you should consider doing this as well.

It is difficult to see what this anonymous poster has to gain from exposing their cowardly and defective personality to the public, apart from the fact that they are somehow afraid of alternative opinions on various issues and are trying to nudge others out of the comments section, a kind of blog terrorism. If this poster is an example of a young Liberal conservative, then heaven help this country.

Irf, seriously, you should stop posting comments from "yl".

This person is obviously a Young Liberal, and is either a Tory wet or an exclusive cabal follower.

Please be more discerning in the sort of weed growing riff-raff you allow to have their two cents worth.

Is a yl a young lady? She needs a coarse talking to.

YL sounds like someone who knows the antics of a certain staffer for the former federal member for parramatta ...
